Kassim Mohammed (pictured above), the award winning TV producer behind the popular KTN’s investigative programmes, Jicho Pevu and the Inside Story, has become the latest investigative journalist to leave the Standard Group.
The tiny but brilliant journalist who is recognized as among the few hard-to-compromise journalists in the country announced last Saturday December 12th that he was departing the station, dealing a major blow to the two programmes, and leaving Jicho Pevu reporter Mohammed Ali’s fate at KTN hanging in the balance, with word that he is also on his way out.
Mr Kassim follows John Allan Namu who left the station last month citing frustrations at the work place. The departure of Kassim Mohammed appears to be the final nail in the coffin for Standard Group’s investigative team.

In March this year, the media group’s print investigative team was disbanded after an acrimonious working relationship with Group Managing Editor Kipkoech Tanui and other editors over the need to give more prominence to investigative stories.
Most of the members of the investigative team who included Moses Michira, Paul Wafula, Machua Koinange, Julius Maina, Dann Okoth, Kenneth Kwama and Nyambega Gisesa have left Standard Group. Only Michira and Wafula, who were transferred to the business desk, are still working at Standard.
The same case applies for KTN’s investigative team where John Allan Namu, Ian Wafula and now Kassim Mohammed have departed. It seems that only Dennis Onsarigo will be remaining in the group.
As from last year, Kassim Mohammed worked alongside Mohamed Ali, John Allan Namu, Nyambega Gisesa and camera man Sam Munia in carrying out various investigative stories in the region. Munia too has hinted at leaving.
