A 35-year-old man died at an apartment party on Monday night in Embakasi, Nairobi, after falling through a balcony on the building’s fourth floor, police said.

The man, Philip Kibet, fell to his death after leaning on a weak railing in the apartment, where he had joined friends for drinks shortly before midnight, police said. He lived nearby in the same neighbourhood.

Those present said they heard a loud thud, and upon checking, they found Kibet lying motionless, blood seeping from his mouth and ears.

The witnesses described the scene as harrowing, noting that he had suffered severe head and body trauma after landing headfirst on the cobblestone pavement.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Police have questioned the couple who hosted the gathering. Their statements indicate that the fall was accidental, and no one was close enough to prevent the tragedy. Investigations continue.
