A businesswoman has accused a parliamentary aspirant for Embakasi East constituency of not paying her a debt of Ksh6 million. Millicent Akelo accuses Francis Mureithi of launching his campaigns early and organizing big rallies yet he has not paid her a total accumulated amount of Ksh6 million for the sugar she supplied to him.
The Ksh6 million debt is a result of the court interest accumulated on the initial Ksh3.7 million since 2012. According to a court ruling in 2012 of civil case 4156 of 2012, Ms Akelo supplied sugar to Francis Mureithi for export to South Sudan.
However, Mr Mureithi told the court that the contract was verbal and that Ms Akello, who owned Mao Connections Ltd, was to get the sugar and Mureithi the market. Mr Mureithi supplied the sugar to South Sudan through Glom Trading Company.
He claimed in court that he was not paid by the buyers in South Sudan so he could not pay Ms Akelo . Court documents show that on the 6th of conformable 2012, a judgement was entered and that Mureithi who had not paid a total of shs 3,769,187 to Mao connections limited was ordered to do so.
However, Ms Akelo said that despite being ordered to pay the money, Mr Mureithi has been on the run and refused to pay the money.
“He has been playing cat and mouse games. He promises verbally to pay but doesn’t pay. At times he sends me as low as Ksh60,000 . When we went to court, he was ordered to pay since it was discovered that he was lying that he has not been paid. I am offended because he has been organising rallies and spending a lot of money yet my business has collapsed because of him,” Ms Akelo said.
She also provided copies of bounced cheques issued to her by Mureithi. Our team of reporters is following up on his source of revenue.
