The former Nairobi City Hall finance officer whose net worth is estimated over one billion shillings says he can’t afford the most basic of needs: food!
Mr Jimmy Kiamba, whose foreign accounts handled more than Ksh400 million last year alone, says since the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) froze his accounts on November 14 last year, he has been living from hand to mouth.
His two accounts at CfC Stanbic had a balance of Ksh14.4 million when they were frozen – one Ksh10.3 million while other Ksh4.1 million. Mr Kiamba’s estate includes four apartments in Kilimani, a town house in Kileleshwa, two maisonettes in South C and eight plots in Muthaiga, Mavoko and Machakos. He also owns six cars.

Apart from the local accounts, he has foreign accounts, which transacted more than Ksh400 million between January and November last year. The EACC believes Mr Kiamba acquired the property through fraudulent deals using his position. It wants the bank accounts and assets frozen for another six months before it concludes investigations.
Mr Kiamba, through lawyer Philip Nyachoti before High Court judge Mbogholi Msanga, said yesterday apart from food, he cannot afford school fees for his children. He has been charged in a magistrate’s court with defrauding the Nairobi county government of millions of shillings and abuse of office.
The EACC says Kiamba’s wealth does not match his ksh85,000 monthly salary. He is out on a Ksh2 million bail. The hearing continues.
