If you use Instagram regularly, chances are that you have seen the green dot next to a person’s profile picture on Instagram Direct Messenger, where you were video chatting or probably exchanging direct messages or DMs, in short.
If you see the green dot, it means that whoever you are chatting with is online and is active on Instagram. But when that timestamp is not there, they are possibly off the free photo and video-sharing social networking app.
But as you see their online status and last seen on IG (Instagram), they can view yours too, and maybe, this time, you are pissed off with that function and cry to maintain your privacy and want to turn it off. It is understandable.

One of the reasons many people give for turning their active status off is that they do not want those they are chatting with to bother them for being online when they fail to reply to texts on time. But the conversation might have been boring, dead already, or.., the reasons are many, so no pointing fingers.
Though Instagram makes your Activity Status visible to people you follow and anyone you message by default, you can easily change it. Here is how:
How to easily hide your last seen on IG
Because the steps are similar, here is a quick guide to hiding your online status on Instagram for Android and iPhone users using the official Instagram app:
1. Open the Instagram application where your account is logged in and showing the active status
2. Tap on your profile picture on the far right below your screen to access your profile
3. Tap the three parallel horizontal lines (displayed as ≡) to access your main profile menu or settings and activity page
4. On the Search box, type ‘activity status’
5. Before you finish typing “active,” you will see Show Activity Status in the results. Click on it to proceed
6. You will go to the Active Status section with a toggle. Put it off
Boom! Just like that. You have now hidden your last seen, and nobody on Instagram can notice when you are online.
For those accessing the Instagram Feed on the web using a computer or a laptop, to turn off active status, go to your profile > click on Options next to the View archive tab > tap Settings and privacy > and on the ‘How others can interact with you,’ go to Messages and story replies > ‘Who can see you are online’ > then select Show activity status and hide your Instagram active status from there. It is easy, and you will be done in seconds.
