Two people have been k¡lled in an acc¡dent on the Eldoret-Nakuru highway involving a Simba Coach bus taking people to Nairobi, police say.
The bus veered off the highway, off the guardrails and into a river early on Saturday, August 24, at the Twin Bridge area, k¡lling the two and injuring score others, some of whom were trápped in the bus, and rescue efforts are ongoing, police confirmed.
Survivors described being in a state of unease and chaos a few minutes before the acc¡dent when the bus began speeding unusually while near the bridge. They say it then roared the wrong way, hitting a stationary truck beside the road and colliding with another before it fell into the ditch.

“The bus was being driven safely and at full capacity until we reached a point where the speed accelerated, and passengers started asking what could be the problem,” Cleophas Barasa, one of the survivors travelling from Bungoma to Nairobi, told journalists. He disclosed that the acc¡dent happened at around 4 AM, and he and his wife sustained head injur¡es with their two kids escaping unhurt.
The cause of the cràsh is unclear. But as the full circumstances of the acc¡dent remain under investigation, Mr Barasa lauded the quick efforts of police and emèrgency medical teams from the Rèd Cróss, who responded to the scene a few minutes later.
Kuresoi North Police Commander Juddah Gathenge said three people were critically injurèd but were expected to survive. 21 other people sufféred injur¡es considered serious to “less serious” injur¡es, he said.
Police have since closed off the area, and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.
