The Africa Digital Media Institute (ADMI) is set to launch Africa’s first social media platform designed to provide monetization tools for content creators.

Through “Vumicentral”, content creators will have the capability to establish live broadcasts in mere seconds and engage with their fan base.

Speaking during the school’s recent graduation in Nairobi, Dr Laila Macharia, the Chair and co-founder of ADMI, underscored the significance of this social media platform in line with ADMI’s vision to become Africa’s premier creative media and technology innovation hub.

ADMI has garnered recognition, recently being selected by the Rwanda Development Board and GIZ to spearhead a reform project for the Rwandan audio-visual sector. The project’s goal is to provide support to the ICT Innovation Center in Kigali.

Since its inception, ADMI has successfully trained over 5,000 individuals, with over 3,700 formally enrolled, from 35 countries.

ADMI has successfully drawn in students from various regions outside of Africa. The institution admitted its first students from Eritrea, France, the Gambia, and Lesotho this year, among almost 500 students other matriculants. This diverse influx of individuals can tap into a unique opportunity into the rich tapestry of experiences and perspectives that Vumi has to offer.

Dr Laila emphasized ADMI’s unique “learn-and-work” model, offering a global, practical, digital, progressive, and transformative education. She noted that students gain industry exposure and practical work experience, culminating in the creation of a polished portfolio of work upon graduation.

Laila stated, “The model is working: 62% of ADMI alumni report being gainfully employed at graduation, with a remarkable 93% finding employment within six months thereafter. More than 70% typically secure their first job through ADMI’s networks and partnerships each year.”

ADMI’s evolution into Africa’s premier creative media and technology innovation hub can be attributed to various partnerships with key institutions.

In 2019, ADMI expanded into creative technology through a partnership with Rubika University in France, globally ranked as a top institution for Animation and Game Development. More recently, ADMI has partnered with key players such as Wowzi, Netflix, Warner Music, Google, the Aspen Africa Initiative and the Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) in Mombasa, preparing youth as the tech workforce of the future.

Dr Laila added, “A substantial 700 plus of ADMI alumni are mature ‘upskillers’ who are already employed when they join ADMI. This year, ADMI launched ‘AcceleratED,’ a corporate ‘career accelerator,’ to provide enhanced support to these individuals on their learning and working journey as they future-proof their careers.”

ADMI’s remarkable growth as Africa’s creative media and technology innovation hub reflects its dedication to fostering partnerships with key institutions and driving innovation within the industry.

“We are committed to pushing further towards our vision to see 1 million of Africa’s digital professionals and creative entrepreneurs sharing their work with the world, for profit and for impact,” Dr Laila added.
