Planned Power Outage in Various Parts of Nairobi – KPLC

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) wishes to inform its customers and the public at large about a planned outage that will affect various parts of Nairobi County.

The outage is scheduled for today, Monday, June 10, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Areas that will be affected are Uhuru Gardens, Amref University, Nairobi West Prison, Jonathan Ngeno Estate, Breeze Estate, Hansard Heights, Laxminarayan Apartments, T-Mall, Wilson Airport and Amref Wilson, School for the Blind, Sunshine School, Langata Primary School and parts of Kodi Road.

“The interruption is part of network maintenance,” KPLC said.

The electricity supply interruptions are necessary for maintaining critical power infrastructure to ensure that the residents of the affected areas get a reliable electricity supply.

Kenya Power also said there will be planned power interruptions in six other counties, as well, at different times. These are Nyeri and parts of Kiambu County from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Bomet, Kisii and Homa Bay counties from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Murang’a County from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, like Nairobi.

Specifically, the following areas of the mentioned counties will experience the organised blackout:

In Nyeri County;

* Swahili Village, Oilcom, Ruringu, PG Murrithi, County Assembly of Nyeri offices, Ibauini, Kagayu, St Jude, Thunguma, Beavers and Beatrice Court.

In Kiambu County;

* Mama Ngina University, Mutomo Market, Wangui Market, Kiganjo Market, Gachika Market, Gathiru Village and Gathiru School, Ichaweri Market, Kiamwangi Market, Gatitu School, Gitare Dispensary, Gitare Market, Githembe and Theta.

There are also Githunguri Town, Githunguri Law Courts, Miumia, Gitwe Girls, Kambaa, Nyamuthanga, Fresha and Pascha Dairies, Kagwe Shops, Kagaa, Matimbei, Gatamaiyu, Matuguta, Gachoire, Kamuchenge, Nyanduma, Beta Care, Thakwa Village, Kamburu and their adjacent customers.

In Bomet County;

* Koiwa Market, Koiwa Health Centre, Chaptalal Dispensary, Kobel, Kaptebengwet, Rorok, Kitala, Siomo, Kiptenden, Sotit, Berekwek, Meswondo, Tuiyobei, Besiobei and Bosto.

In Kisii County;

* Karmel Park, Kegati Fisheries, Riabamanyi, Nyaguta, Itumbe, Nyanguru, Rianyamwamu, Kiogoro and Kegati Market.

In Homa Bay;

* Kawonda Market, Singenge, Kayanga and Andiwo.

In Murang’a County;

* Branan Estate, Kahaini Market, Kihumbuini, Gatanga, Kirwara, Bedor Estate, Githumbuini Estate, Golden Pearl Estate, OLA, Enkasiti Flower Farm, Simbi Roses, Kwa Nyoka Estate, Koorali Estate, Kahoya Estate Houses, Silver Oak, Ngararia Girls, Kiunyu, Kiama Estate, Gatoka, Kimatus, Mabanda and Ithangariri.

While KPLC technicians will be working on the lines, they are urging affected customers to be patient and to treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption.

During such planned power interruptions, it is advisable to switch appliances off as a precaution to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.
