Just hours after being sacked, Sunday Nation Managing Editor Eric Obino could be making a comeback at Nation Media Group – but in a different capacity. According to the latest reports from Nation Centre, Mr Obino was given a new lease of life after a board meeting decided to recall him.
Sources said the sacking had been pushed by Editor in Chief Tom Mshindi, who had issues with Obino’s news management style and editorial independence, but board members, meeting today at Nation Centre, reversed the decision.
Mr Obino has been offered the position of Production Managing Editor, which will put him in charge of editing of all Nation newspapers’ editorial content. But sources say he is reluctant to take up the position, seeing it as less prestigious than heading the Sunday Nation.

Negotiations are currently ongoing to have him accept the new role and save Nation the reputational risk it is facing in pushing out key talent at such a critical time. His return will be a major blow to Mshindi, who had hoped to push him out and firm his grip on the Sunday Nation editorial content during the campaign and elections period.
The other big name that has been pushed out is News Editor Eric Shimoli and there are rumours of more editors who have been given letters.
