As the world awaits the launch of the final season of HBO’s most watched and celebrated TV series Game of Thrones, fans now have a reason to take part in the TV series global campaign dubbed ‘For The Throne.’ In this campaign, fans are asked what they would do for the throne.

The ingenious blood drive comes a month before the much-awaited season premiere eagerly awaited on April 14 on DStv slated for the same time as the US.  For the season finale and in celebration of hit series Game of Thrones, DStv has today announced what fans should do ‘For The Throne’ to show their loyalty and prove their devotion to the throne.  For seven seasons, the characters of Game of Thrones have bled for the Iron Throne and this time DStv is asking ardent fans of GOT to do the same.

DStv in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society is inviting fans to ‘Bleed For The Throne’ –a gesture worthy of one of the biggest shows in television, and one designed to harness the cultural power of Westeros to help end blood shortage in the real world. This initiative led by HBO will be the largest blood donation promotional effort by an entertainment company with Kenya Red Cross.

The blood drive will take place between March 14 – March 16 in coordinated giving from fans in Nairobi exactly a month prior to the premier of GOT Season 8 set for April 14, 2019. The blood drive will take place at Nairobi National Archives from 9am to 4pm.  After giving blood, donors will walk in the steps of the characters & get an exclusive Game of Thrones T-shirt while supplies last. Additionally, those present for blood donation at drive will automatically be entered to win a trip to the season 8 world premiere of Game of Thrones.

To help interested donors easily make the journey to Bleed for the Throne, tips on blood donation are available on the Kenya Red Cross Society website and App.

“We are incredibly excited to mobilize the global army of Game of Thrones fans to make a positive impact on the world,” said Eric Odipo, MD, MultiChoice Kenya. “In partnership with the Kenya Red Cross, we’re creating a unique platform to engage our tremendously passionate fanbase, and ultimately showcase the bravery and valor of those fans who will go so far as to bleed for the throne.”

“The Kenya Red Cross Society is thrilled to partner with DStv and Game of Thrones. Every day, thousands of patients across the country are dependent on voluntary blood donors to help them fight for their lives,” said Dr Abass Gullet, Secretary General, Kenya Red Cross Society.

“No matter who you’re rooting for to take the throne, you can be a hero for patients in need.”

Game of Thrones fans around the globe will also be able to participate thanks to additional partnerships with local blood donation organizations in 15 international countries including the United States, Norway, Sweden, South Africa, Ghana, Botswana, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Serbia , Greece and Croatia.
