Multinational industrial gas company BOC Gases Kenya Plc has appointed Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as its new Managing Director. The head of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants joins BOC Kenya as from July 16.
Ms. Gathoga-Mwangi replaces former MD Millicent Onyonyi who issued a resignation notice in mid-February with effect from April 30. Her resignation brought an end to her two year stint at the helm of BOC Kenya which has since been on the hunt for a new chief.
Aided by human resource consultancy firm Hawkins Associates, BOC Kenya had sought a candidate with certain qualifications that were posted in local dailies in early April. The notice read, “Applicants should hold a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Commerce or Finance with over 10 years senior management experience preferably in manufacturing sector.”
The industrial gas company has settled on Ms. Gathoga-Mwangi who according to a statement from company secretary Ruth Ngobi termed her a “senior executive with over 20 years of local and international experience in commercial and general management predominantly in the manufacturing sector.”
The new BOC Kenya MD has also been Country Director of Cadbury Kenya as well as General manager at Unga Limited. Part of her experience also includes a stint at Groupe Lactalis — Parmalat Botswana. She holds a Bachelor in Science in International Business Administration degree from the United States International University (USIU).

BOC Kenya is allied to British-based Linde Group and in 2017 posted a 56% decline in profits as compared to their 2016 projections. The depreciation followed a percentage decrease in profit for a second consecutive year as 2016 saw a 14.9% decline from 2015. The steady slide has been attributed to competition from nitrogen and oxygen imports.
