Interior and Cordination of National Government Acting Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has declared Tuesday, November 28, as a public holiday to allow for the swearing in of President Uhuru Kenyatta for a second term in office.
The move followed Monday’s move by the Supreme Court to dismiss two petitions filed to challenge him his win the October 26 fresh election boycotted by NASA leader Raila Odinga.
In a unanimous decision, judges of the apex court led by Chief Justice David Maraga, said the petitions were not merited and affirmed Uhuru’s election.
The Assumption of the Office of the President Act provides that the president-elect must be sworn-in not earlier than 10am and not later than 2pm on the first Tuesday after his election or after the Supreme Court dispenses with any challenge lodged against his win and that the day should be declared a public holiday.
The Assumption of the Office of the President Committee chairman Joseph Kinyua similarly gazzetted Tuesday as the day the president-elect would be sworn-in.
