From 334 Golfers, Duncan Kung’u Clinches Ruiru Captain’s Prize 2026

A staggering field of 334 golfers descended upon the Ruiru Sports Club over the weekend for the highly anticipated Captain’s Prize 2026. In a weekend defined by high-stakes competition and exceptional talent, Duncan Kung’u emerged as the ultimate victor, carding an impressive 45 stableford points while playing off a handicap of 21, to claim the Overall Winner title.

 “I had a fantastic round at the Captain’s Prize, thoroughly enjoyed the company of my four ball, and I’m pleased my short game really came through for me on the day,” Mr Kung’u said.

The tournament showcased the club’s vibrant golfing community, with scores reflecting a high level of play across all divisions. Following closely in the top honours, Catherine Kamene and Mercy Martin both delivered stellar performances in the ladies’ division 2, finishing with 45 stableford points each. Erastus Ouko took the Men’s division two crown with a solid 44 stableford points.

In the hunt for pure stroke-play dominance, Catherine Wambui secured the Gross winner title with a commendable score of 77 gross points. On the sponsor’s front, the competition was incredibly fierce, with Albert Waweru from Britam and Victor Juma representing Laptop Clinic both carding an astounding 52 stableford points, with Waweru taking the top spot on countback.

The guest categories saw Harun Mugendi leading the pack with 45 stableford points, while Halima Salim took the Lady Guest title with 40 stableford points. The power hitters of the weekend were Louis Nderi and Wambui Gachoka, who claimed the Longest Drive titles for men and ladies, respectively. Michael Waititu and Catherine Wambui showed surgical precision to win the Nearest to the Pin prizes.

“To see 334 golfers take to the course this weekend is a testament to the growth of the sport at Ruiru Sports Club,” said Jasta Mathenge, Captain, Ruiru Sports Club. “The level of competition, especially from our division winners and sponsors, has set a high bar for the rest of the 2026 season.”

The tournament was sponsored by leading local and international brands, including Isuzu, NCBA, Pernod Ricard, AM Communications, Stanbic Bank, TotalEnergies, On-site Fiber, Rentco Asset Leasing and Britam, among others, support that underscores the growing stature of the club’s captain’s prize week.
